Buick is adopting the new Apple CarPlay capability for smartphones for its 2016 Regal and LaCrosse models to integrate phone applications with the cars’ radio displays.
Establishing the connection with smartphone through its IntelliLink system, the technology makes it possible for the driver to avail navigation, hands-free text messaging, contact lists and entertainment applications through an eight-inch IntelliLink radio display.
The company also plans to integrate Android Auto capability with its IntelliLink.
Buick vice-president Duncan Aldred said: "Buick understands the importance of connectivity integration in everyday life and this new connection technology provides drivers with a smart and simple way to have all the conveniences of their mobile devices safely at their fingertips.
"It's another step in building and implementing technology that consistently puts our customers first."
Besides, the system also allows drivers to call their contacts and receive messages, among others, from the touchscreen or through voice via Siri. Some of the Apple CarPlay applications are Phone, Messages, Maps and Music.
Aiming to help drivers concentrate on road, many smartphone applications could be run through voice by means of a button on the steering wheel.
Besides, there is also a provision for a mobile hub capable of connecting the occupants of the vehicle with one another. Up to seven personal devices can be connected.
