Mercedes-Benz has unveiled 21m long bus called CapaCity L, which is three meters longer than the average conventional articulated buses operating in Germany.
CapaCity L can accommodate up to 191 passengers and it is designed to address transport problems in inner cities.
The bus is powered by a six-cylinder engine capable of producing 360 horsepower.
Daimler claims that the bus consumes below 0.5 l/100 km per passenger and CO2 emission is below 13.3 g/km per passenger.
CapaCity L is based on the company's other flagship Mercedes-Benz Citaro G bus, but Mercedes has increased the length of the front and rear section by one segment. The company has also added steered fourth axle, which has increased the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating ) to 32 t.
CapaCity L features ATC (Articulated Turntable Controller) system which is designed to provide optimum steering characteristics during normal operation and is capable of stabilizing the bus when it travels through rough or slippery roads.
Daimler Buses head Hartmut Schick said: "The CapaCity L makes an important contribution towards reducing the volume of traffic in inner cities.
"It is the longest European bus with just one articulated turntable. Plus it is environmentally friendly - no other bus with a diesel engine has lowerCO2 emissions per passenger."
German transport company Hamburger Hochbahn is expected to be the first operator to trial the new Mercedes-Benz CapaCity L under real operating conditions.
