Stephen Balaban, the 24-year-old founder of Lambda Labs, has created "an alternative operating system that runs on Glass but is not controlled by Google," he told NPR's Steve Henn.
Though Google has banned facial recognition software (among other things, like porn apps), a new operating system provices a convenient loophole for developers to reintroduce it.
Will this new operating system open up a new realm of software possibilities, or will Google slam the door shut before other programs can be introduced? Balaban sees his software as a "core feature," but Google might not share that opinion, especially with social and political spheres' concerns about privacy.
