Chinese automaker Build Your Dreams (BYD) has opened the first ever electric bus factory in Lanscater, California in the US for the manufacture of long-range electric buses.
The automaker has also unveiled the first all-electric, long-range, 40-foot rapid transit bus made at the new facility in California.
According to the company, its battery and EV technologies have supported it in making an electricity-powered, 24-hour, long-range battery buses that offer emission-free, silent, and economic transportation.
BYD Motors CEO Stella Li said the company has a commitment to provide zero-emission, superior technology transportation vehicles in the US.
"We are starting out here in Lancaster, California with the goal of providing clean energy electric buses, throughout the United States creating even more jobs for Americans," Li added.
With the move the company has added 60 new jobs at the facility, and expects to increase the number of jobs to 100 by the end of 2014 and to 200 more by the end of 2015..
Lancaster Mayor Rex Parris said BYD continues to bring much-needed manufacturing jobs to the community, having already brought more than 60 new jobs to the region.
"We look forward to their continued growth, and the resulting economic prosperity they bring to the Antelope Valley and the State of California," Parris added.
