Australia’s King Island beef brand has received a farm-quality accreditation, boosting its chances of access to premium international markets.
With this accreditation, the meat processing company JBS Australia has included the brand into its farm quality assurance system., ABC News said.
JBS southern farm assurance manager Mark Inglis was quoted by the news agency as saying: "The on-farm assurance program has been in response to changing customer needs, wanting to know more and more about where the animals are coming from, the animal welfare and the treatment.
"It's about being able to get some continuity of supply in and around the brand as far as farm assurance goes, so we've been slowly building up those numbers on King Island. We've now built up to that just about all those producers that are supplying into that King Island brand are farm assured."
According to Inglis, many of its 40-odd suppliers have been signed up for this quality accreditation program for about 12 months.
King Island Beef Producers Group represents all JBS suppliers under the King Island brand.
