Canned vegetable products manufacturer McCall Farms is planning to open a new production facility in Effingham, South Carolina.
When operational this month, the facility will expand the company's existing Florence County operations, while creating 25 new jobs over the next five years.
The new facility will increase McCall's retail canning capacity by 100%, its foodservice canning capacity by 300% and its water, boiler and packaging capacity by 200%.
In addition to doubling the company's manufacturing capacity, the facility will consolidate all operations for Bruce's Yams, which is said to be the largest supplier of canned yams and sweet potatoes.
McCall Farms marketing director Annie Ham said: "As we continue to grow and improve our manufacturing capabilities at McCall Farms, our relationships with local farmers are as important as ever.
"For more than 177 years, we've partnered with farmers across the Southeast with the goal of delivering the freshest, highest-quality foods to our customers.
"With this expansion, we look forward to continuing these vital partnerships, as well as increasing our farming network to include additional farms throughout South Carolina."
The expansion project is also being backed by a $400,000 Set Aside grant from the Coordinating Council for Economic Development.
