Quad/Graphics is expanding its digital print capacity with the recent acquisition of the world’s first HP Indigo WS6800 digital press.
With this investment, the company plans to grow its variable data and short-run print capabilities for applications related to labeling, folding carton and flexible packaging.
The agreement for a deal was signed at Labelexpo 2014 where HP launched its Indigo WS6800 digital press in the US.
Quad/Graphics president of packaging Tom Garland said, "Quad/Graphics is committed to providing our customers with efficient, high-quality print solutions that support their brand promise as well as drive results.
Not only will the added capacity of the HP Indigo WS6800 digital press expand our robust digital print offering, we can also continue to grow and enhance our digital label and paperboard carton businesses with customization and short-run capabilities."
An improvement on the best-selling HP Indigo WS6000 digital press series which has seen more than 700 installations worldwide, the new machine claims to come with breakthrough productivity, versatility and colour management.
According to HP, WS6800 delivers the industry's highest crossover point in narrow-web production versus analog for the vast majority of pressure-sensitive label jobs. Owing to this, the press is capable of supporting rapid increase in volume of digitally produced labels.
The new machine comes equipped with advanced digital performance for different kinds of applications, including pressure-sensitive labels, in-mold labeling and shrink sleeves.
The company said that they will install the press at the Franklin plant in Wisconsin of Quad/Graphics, which is ISO and cGMP-compliant and AIB International-certified provider of packaging solutions by late 2014.
