Employees at The Gerdau Steel Mill Collected Nearly GBP 5,500 of Non Perishable Food Items

Employees at the Gerdau steel mill in Jacksonville collected nearly GBP 5,500 of non perishable food items for Samaritan House Food Bank of Baker County.They will donate an additional USD 2,500 on behalf of Gerdau Institute,the organization in charge of the company's social responsibility program.

Guy Colombo,human resources manager for the Jacksonville mill said that"We had a record-breaking year for the mill,so breaking this record too was a nice finish to the year.Our employees had a lot of fun with this project and significantly improved our results from last year."

There were several activities that contributed to the success of the holiday campaign.For several days,Bill Rider,superintendent of the melt shop,dressed up as Santa Claus and collected funds from employees during the morning shift change.They also exchanged food donations for extra tickets toward door prizes at the company Christmas dinner.Other holiday activities include the collection of approximately 100 books for the Senior Citizens Center of Baker County.

The Gerdau Holiday Campaign is a social responsibility initiative that is geared to brighten the holidays for the communities surrounding Gerdau locations in 14 countries.Nationally,eight of the company's locations are participating in the Holiday Campaign with new locations being added to the program annually.
