German automobile manufacturer has opened its first model of solar charging station, Point. One S, at its multi-functional exhibition facility, BMW Welt in Munich.
The charging station is designed and developed by EIGHT along with ABB, BMW Group, RWE and Deutsche Bahn on the behalf of Germany's "ELEKTROMOBILIT?T VERBINDET" ("e-mobility connects").
According to EIGHT, the Point One S station incorporates key elements of the BMW Welt design elements.
The company used the design elements of system that helps reduce energy consumption and material wastage.
The charging station also includes LED-based illumination to indicate the users about occupancy of the station, and a touch screen interface to guide and entertain users while the car is being charged.
EIGHT managing director Christoph B. Roessner said: "The project was very useful for all partners who have made huge progress and gained a lot of valuable insights."
"Because organizations from any different areas have been working together many different perspectives have been combined to come to a joint approach and to get the best out of all these different worlds - technology, design, science and manufacturing."
