LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy and LED packaging company Unity Opto Technology have both piled up a backlog of orders for the third quarter of 2012, ensuring that the two firms will post strong revenue growth in the quarter, according to industry sources.
Formosa Epitaxy and Unity Opto have joined forces to tap into TV BLU supply chains in Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan and have continued to expand their pool clients recently, the sources noted.
Additionally, Unity Opto has signed a cooperation agreement with China-based BOE Technology for the supply of LED BLUs. Industry watchers expect Unity Opto's monthly shipments to BOE in the third quarter to expand 30-40% from the previous quarter.
Unity Opto have also seen a significant growth in orders from clients in Japan in the third quarter, with shipments to Japan-based clients to contribute over NT$100 million (US$3.3 million) a month to its total revenues, the sources revealed.
Formosa Epitaxy has received more orders of small- to medium-size LED backlit products in the third quarter, especially for tablet PC applications, which may help the company swing back to profitability in the quarter.
