Ford commenced production of its twin-scroll 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines

Ford has commenced production of its twin-scroll 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines at its Cleveland Engine Plant in Ohio.

Ford Starts Production of Ecoboost Engines in US

The engines produced at the Cleveland Engine Plant are targeted towards the North American market.

Previously, the engines produced for North American market were built at the company's plant in Valencia, Spain, which will now produce 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine exclusively for Europe-built vehicles.

However, the Spanish plant will continue to ship components for the engines to North America.

The Cleveland plant currently produces 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine and 3.7-liter V6 rear-wheel drive application.

In 2013, Ford invested $200m in order to support production of the engine at the Ohio plant which employs 1,300 people.

Introduced in 2009, Ford's EcoBoost uses smaller overall engine size which is combined with turbocharging, variable valve timing, gasoline direct injection which facilitates to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will be available in Ford Mustang, Explorer and Lincoln MKC and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine will be available in the new Ford Edge.

Ford U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service VP Mark LaNeve said: "With the new 2.0 and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines featured in the all-new Edge and Explorer, Ford is well-positioned to benefit from the rapidly growing utility vehicle segment.

"Utility sales are growing at three times the rate of the global vehicle industry."
