US-based Aqua Based Technologies has unveiled a new eco-friendly, water-based coating Aqualene 5050 that has high oil and grease resistance (OGR) for paper converting, food packaging and food service industries.
Designed for use with paper, board and new starch-based food packaging substrates (such as PLA) requiring resistance to oil and grease, including food wrappers and bags, paper and paperboard packaging, microwave packaging, frozen food containers, paper plates, boxes, cups and other demanding packaging and food service applications.
According to the company, Aqualene 5050 meets with FDA requirements for direct food contact packaging. It dries clear, and is flexible and non-yellowing making it suitable for various end-use applications.
The product is VOC-free and does not contain any ozone depleting ingredients, making it environmentally safe, without emission controls or safety procedures required for competitive, hazardous, solvent-based coatings.
It is applied by conventional coating apparatus - gravure, flexo, rod, roll-coater, etc, is used as supplied and available in pails, drums and totes.
