Through the investment, which is to be made by March 28, Samsung will become Sharp's fifth largest shareholder, with a 3.4% equity stake, surpassing the 2.56% stake of Qualcomm, the seventh largest shareholder, which last December decided to invest up to 9.9 billion yen. All other significant shareholders are Japanese financial institutions.
