The 3.0L Twin Turbo engine will be capable of producing 400 horsepower 543 Nm of torque, and is likely to feature in the CT6 luxury sedan.

According to Cadillac, the 3.0L Twin Turbo is the only six-cylinder engine that conserves fuel by combining turbocharging with cylinder deactivation and stop/start technologies.

The combination is likely to improve fuel economy by up to 6%.

The engine is capable of deactivating two cylinders in light-load driving conditions in order to enhance efficiency, and reactivate it when needed.

By using the stop/start system, the engine shut down in certain driving conditions to reduce fuel consumption, and it automatically restarts when the brake pedal are activated.

The 3.0L Twin Turbo engine also features turbochargers which consists of efficient, low-volume charge-air cooler, along with lightweight, low-inertia titanium-aluminide turbine wheels.

According to Cadillac, the advanced, low-inertia turbochargers enable the engine to sustain peak torque from 2,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm.

General Motors assistant chief engineer Rich Bartlett said: "Cadillac's elevation on the world stage is driven in great part by its advanced powertrain technology and the all-new 3.0L Twin Turbo powers past the traditional segment leaders with higher degrees of the performance and refinement their reputations were built on."

The company is also introducing the 3.6L V-6 engine, which is expected to be fitted in the 2016 Cadillac CT6.

The 3.6L also features Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation), Noise-reducing features, and stop/start technology which enhances the fuel economy to up to nine percent.

It is capable of producing 335 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque.
