LALA Has Agreed to Acquire Assets of Nicaraguan Food Company Eskimo

Mexican food firm Grupo LALA has agreed to acquire assets of Nicaraguan food company Eskimo for an undisclosed amount.

An agreement to this effect was signed by both the companies, with the transaction to be closed after obtaining regulatory approvals.

The acquisition will further bolster and extend Grupo LALA's business and operations in Central America and will be financed through LALA's existing cash position.

Grupo LALA CEO Arquimedes Celis said: "This acquisition is further affirmation of our interest in expanding LALA's operations in Central America, where we are confident that our business model can be successfully replicated.

"The ice cream category represents an opportunity to participate in adjacent operations as part of the growth strategy we already have in place."

Eskimo offers ice cream, milk and yoghurt, among others. It currently operates a distribution network that serves more than 15,000 points of sale in both modern and traditional channels, with operations in Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica.

Eskimo generated around $54.5m in revenues for the year 2013.
