US manufacturer of rigid and flexible packaging materials Clear Lam Packaging has developed new, renewable packaging for Lactalis American Group’s Precious Sticksters brands.
The Precious Sticksters package made on horizontal form, fill and seal machines holds individually sealed cheese sticks and is made from a lamination of plant-based, renewable plastic and an outer layer made from traditional petroleum-based plastic.
Clear Lam said the 50% plant-based material generates up to 35.2% fewer greenhouse gases and uses up to 36.8% less energy compared to the conventional petroleum-based materials.
The finished materials with a lower carbon footprint use less energy without losing production efficiencies or impacting product performance.
Clear Lam's renewable packaging materials are produced from plant-based bioplastics derived from Natureworks Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA) along with performance enhancing ingredients.
The materials are part of the company's Project EarthClear program and replace petroleum-based plastics with biobased ingredients developed to reduce the introduction of fossil carbon into the atmosphere.
Lactalis American Group president and CEO Frederick Bouisset said by adopting the new packaging, the company is promoting a better future by reducing its energy consumption and environmental impact.
Clear Lam manufactures packaging materials for food, personal health care and other consumer products.
