The Rest of The Consumer Product Company's Sites in The UK&Ireland Are at 94.4% Recycling

The rest of the consumer product company’s sites in the UK and Ireland are at 94.4% recycling in overall tonnage.

The FMCG giant set environmental targets in 2011 to reduce its packaging by 20% (per consumer use) by 2020 compared with 2010 levels.

From a packaging perspective, the report said P&G’s Gillette Venus & Olay razor packaging, made from PET, recycled PET and paperboard, is now using 29% less plastic than before.

The report also revealed that:

- Over the past year, more than 99.35 percent of all materials entering P&G plants were beneficially used in products and through recycling, reuse, and conversion of waste to energy.

- The company’s Gillette manufacturing facility in Reading is using shaving foam waste in compost, which is then used to grow turf for commercial use.

-  P&G’s plant in Nenagh, Ireland, has focused on installing energy efficient lighting, and since 2010, has reduced energy consumption by 12%, CO2 emissions by 16%, disposed waste by 97%, and water consumption by 27%.

-  Through global partnerships with washing machine suppliers, the company claims to have helped increase cold water laundry loads from 38% to 50% worldwide.

-  Since 2006, P&G says Pampers’ funding has helped to protect 100 million women and their babies against maternal and neonatal tetanus–a preventable disease that claims the lives of 58,000 babies within their first month of life.

Irwin Lee, vice president and managing director for P&G UK and Ireland, said sustainability was ‘embedded’ in the P&G business model.

“You don’t sacrifice profitability to deliver sustainability; the two go hand in hand. Our programs are good for business, good for our customers and good for the environment.”

Len Sauers, vice president of global sustainability at P&G, added: “P&G’s commitment to meeting our sustainability goals year over year not only positively impacts people and the environment, but continues to evolve our business and support our top and bottom lines.”
