Colour-Changing Sealant Technology for Heat-Seal Applications Was Introduced by Rollprint

US-based Rollprint packaging products has introduced color-changing sealant technology for heat-seal applications to bolster security and discourage counterfeiting.

The coextrusion-coated sealant can be applied to all kinds of thermally stable web, including polyester, nylon and polypropylene/onto any of the firm's ClearFoil barrier structures, according to manufacturingchemist.com

Rollprint sales and marketing VP Dwane Hahn said when a standard chevron pouch is peeled open, there is a subtle white indicator to show that the contents have been accessed.

"What we've done is engineer a way to leave a strong visual reference with a desired colour. We view this new sealant technology as a game changer to help manufacturers grow market share, while also enhancing security," Hahn said.

The proprietary technology allows a film of one color to transfer a peel indicator of a different color, providing a visual indication that a package has been opened.

According to the company, the technology could also be used as secure packaging for valuable items such as gemstones, collectables, electronic components and documents.
