US based technology systems provider AeroVironment has secured a contract from the automobile manufacturers Fiat to be its full-service home charging partner.
Under the deal, the systems provider will supply as well as install its UL-listed home charging stations for the manufacturer's electric vehicle (EV) Fiat 500e.
The 2013 Fiat 500e features a 24kWh lithium-ion battery, which uses the SAE J1772 recharge connector of the Fiat's 240volt charging station that is said to charge the EV in four hours.
AeroVironment Efficient Energy Systems business segment senior vice president and general manager Wahid Nawabi said having own auto refueling station right in garage or driveway gives EV drivers a new kind of freedom.
"We are dedicated to developing more 'gotta have' charging products that will make refueling even easier as more EVs hit the roadways,"
According to the company, the AeroVironment's UL-listed station can be installed indoors or outdoors.
The Fiat 500e vehicles are expected to increase the number of plug-in electric vehicles available to American drivers.
