Borealis Unveils New Transparent Polypropylene Grade

Austrian chemical and plastics solutions provider Borealis has announced the launch of the new transparent polypropylene (PP) grade, Borpact SH950MO for the frozen food packaging sector.

Borpact SH950MO, which is based on Borealis Nucleation Technology (BNT), has been developed mainly for packaging of deep freeze products such as ice cream, frozen desserts and other frozen food items.

The material features a combination of transparency and good drop impact properties in low temperatures. Its performance is improved by better flow and processability with improved stiffness compared to Borpact SG930MO, its predecessor.

Borpact SH950MO also serves as a better choice for broader consumer packaging and housewares and is suitable for special closure designs. The taste and odor of the packed product will remain the same, due to the material's good organoleptics properties.

Converters can use lower processing temperatures, which support energy and cycle time savings, in combination with BNT, due to the better flowability of the grade.

Borealis claims that the formulation and stiffness of the new Borpact SH950MO leads to better demolding properties and make processing easier.

Both the flowability and stiffness allow the use of thinner walls and difficult designs without compromising the properties of the product.
