Clear Lam Is Rolling out Its Second Bio-Based Resin for Container Packaging

US-based Clear Lam is rolling out its second bio-based resin for container packaging, besides developing a film-based flexible, stackable container product line, with an aim to replace rigid plastic bottles, glass jars and metal cans.

Clear Lam CMO Roman Forowycz said they believe it would gain currency in the rigid food packaging, detergent packaging, and packaging for personal health-care products, pet foods, infant formula and nutritional products, according to plasticsnews.com.

"In food, we see it being used more for refrigerated products such as meats and cheese. It can also go into any market where PVC is used, and those companies tend to be moving quicker into plastics that are perceived to be more environmentally friendly," Forowycz said.

Clear Lam, a developer and manufacturer of flexible and rigid packaging materials, has estimated sales of $124 million from its film and sheet business, with two plants in the US and one in China.
