SunJet, a division of Sun Chemical, has joined forces with inkjet technology specialist Xaar to develop a new mineral oil-free (MOF) ink IK822, Black MOF, to minimize the food contamination in secondary packaging applications.
The concerns regarding the contamination of food from inks used on secondary food packaging and recycled packaging paperboard has been growing over the recent years, according to Xaar.
The new ink is said to be designed for use in secondary packaging applications that include barcoding on corrugated and other absorbent paper-based materials.
Black MOF, which includes premium grade pigment, is claimed to offer high quality and optical density on a wide range of porous substrates.
Xaar noted that IK822 MOF ink has also been developed to meet coding and marking requirements, in addition to providing a solution ahead of potential legislation.
The ink has been approved for use with the Xaar 128 and Xaar 500 printheads and requires minimal printhead maintenance, as well as warranted against long-term damage to the printhead.
It also offers reliable and optimized digital print performance to maximise production uptime and throughput and can be differentiated from other non-warranted fluids that could potentially damage Xaar printheads.
IK822 MOF has been certified to work consistently and reliably for a year of heavy usage.
