Hyundai Motors and Its Chinese Partner Is Recalling About 97,542 Cars Over Airbags Issue

South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors along with its Chinese partner is recalling about 97,542 cars over airbags issue.

According to the China General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the recall is applicable to Elantra Yuedong cars manufactured between 16 March 2008 and 25 January 2010.

The recall was prompted over the concerns that air bags in affected cars are expected to accidentally get activated even when the cars are parked or moving at slow speeds.

The agency said that many complaints have been received from owners of the vehicles regarding spontaneous airbag deployments, and that some of the incidents had even injured the customers.

Further, the carmaker's Chinese partner, along with Beijing Automotive Industry, is planning to provide software upgrade to the embedded airbag control unit for the affected cars from 10 July 2012 for free.
