British snacking company KP Snacks agreed to buy Butterkist, the popcorn business of Tangerine Confectionery for an undisclosed price.
The acquisition will also include the manufacturing facility of Butterkist located in Pontefract, West Yorkshire.
Butterkist’s 140 employees will be absorbed in KP Snacks business after the completion of the acquisition.
KP Snacks CEO Mark Thorpe calls Butterkist as an iconic brand with a heritage of 100 years and the leading branded popcorn in the UK.
Thorpe added: “I am delighted that we have this opportunity to add Butterkist to our existing portfolio, which includes McCoy’s, Hula Hoops, POM-BEAR and KP Nuts, as we seek to offer consumers and customers a comprehensive UK snacking category proposition.
“We look forward to welcoming our new Pontefract colleagues and the Butterkist brand to KP.”
KP Snacks expects to work together with Tangerine to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the completion of the Butterkist acquisition for customers, consumers and colleagues.
During the handover period, business will be done as usual at Butterkist.

KP Snacks is the combination of Intersnack UK and the 1853-founded Kenyon Produce (KP). Its savoury snack products also include Skies, Discos, Nik Naks, Wheat Crunchies, Brannigans, Frisps, Velvet Crunch among others.
