Umicore to Construct a New Facility in Hemaraj, Thailand

Belgium based materials technology company Umicore is planning to construct a new facility in Hemaraj, Thailand which will produce emission control catalysts for light duty vehicles.

The company is expected to invest around €20m at the facility which is aimed at meeting the demand for automotive catalysts in South East Asia.

The construction of the plant will begin in 2015 and the work is expected to be completed by the second half of 2016.

The plant will be located near Rayong which is close to most of the automotive plants in Thailand which is expected to help the company get new business.

Umicore Automotive Sales & Marketing SVP Jrg von Roden said: "We are delighted with this investment.

"The new facility will further extend our ability to offer emission control solutions in the Asian markets and will complement the activities that we already have in China, Japan, South Korea and India.

"The investment also allows us to move further towards one of our strategic goals of expanding our offering to Japanese car producers around the world."

Thailand is becoming one of the hubs of South East Asia's automotive industry with more than 4 million vehicles produced in the region in 2013, and nearly two million were produced in Thailand alone, the company said.
