Honda’s Canadian unit is planning to invest $857m into three of its Alliston, Ontario manufacturing facilities to prepare for manufacturing of its flagship Honda Civic compact car.
The company's Alliston facility, which is located 60 miles northwest of Toronto, will be the first facility to commence mass production of the next-generation Civic.
Ontario Government will also provide a conditional grant of up to $85.7m for the project.
Honda Canada CEO Jerry Chenkin said: "With today's $857-million investment, Honda is pleased to extend our commitment and deep manufacturing roots in Ontario.
"Today, we employ more than 4,000 highly skilled Ontarians in our three plants, have built over six million vehicles in this province and our total manufacturing investments in Ontario will now reach nearly $3.9 billion."
