Arjuna Natural Introduces X-Trend Natural Preservatives

Arjuna Natural Extracts has introduced X-trend range of natural preservatives which can keep food fresh longer and increase its shelf-life.

With X-trend, three major food trends such as natural, clean label, and food safety have been addressed, said Arjuna. The new line will be produced by using distinctive formulations and blends of essential oils and oleoresins.

The R&D team of Arjuna has identified several botanical extracts which possess antimicrobial properties and has also tested them on several food and beverage applications. During the test, it has found no change in taste or mouth feel.

The antimicrobial system from Ajruna comprises of natural antibacterial and antifungal properties of spices, herbs and bacteriocins. These extracts can target specific species of microbes to control spoilage issues in fresh food and beverages and improve their shelf life naturally.

Arjuna Joint managing director Benny Antony said: "Consumers' growing demand for food free from preservatives directly influence food manufacturers' and retailers' decisions in developing and marketing new products.

"Millennials, especially, are actively seeking safe foods without artificial ingredients. New product developers can help ensure success by focusing on clean labels. Consumers want natural, healthy products and our mission is to make it happen, and at the same time to guarantee food safety."

“The R&D team had developed a range of preservatives from natural extracts that do not change the organoleptic properties of food and beverage products such as bread, yogurt, cheese, sausage, humus, mayonnaise and vegetable oils, fruit juices and fruit pulp.

Arjuna claims that its scientists have combined herbal extracts used in traditional medicine with fermentation methods for bacteriocins in unison with advanced technologies such as microencapsulation and emulsification.

Antony said: "Consumers are not aware that a lot of fruit-based drinks are susceptible to oxidation and microbial degradation.

"Drinking fresh fruit and vegetable drinks, or enjoying healthful and nutritious snacks like hummus spread that are refrigerated without preservatives could be dangerous to health.

“These products are highly sensitive to oxidation and contamination. Many such products currently on the market rely on synthetic preservatives to protect them."
