Aston Martin Rapide S Is Being Prepared to Run in This Year's Nurburgring 24-Hour Race

Aston Martin Rapide S: Hydrogen Version to Race at Nurburgring

A hydrogen-powered Aston Martin Rapide S is being prepared to run in this year's Nurburgring 24-hour race.

The car will still use its normally aspirated V12 petrol engine and fuel tank, but will also incorporate a liquid hydrogen reservoir.

The specially built Rapide S will be capable of running on either petrol or pure hydrogen, the latter producing zero emissions at race speeds. The new Aston Martin racer will be capable of generating 373kW using hydrogen fuel alone.

Due to the limited hydrogen tank capacity, the Rapide S will most likely run on hydrogen for only 20-25 per cent of the race, with the remainder to be completed with petrol.

Apart from competing in the race itself, the hydrogen-powered Rapide S is set to lay down the first ever race-pace, zero-emissions lap of the Nurburgring.

Stay tuned for more on this story following an exclusive interview tomorrow with Aston Martin CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez.
