Bega Cheese,an Australia-based dairy company,is planning to upgrade its Ridge Street facility in order to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emission.
Bega Cheese chief executive officer Aidan Coleman said that the company plans to invest$560,000 for the initiative and will get an additional grant of$280,000 from the federal government, reported Abc.net.au.
The grant will help the company to reduce rising energy bills that total over$13m across its five facilities.
"This is a small part of continuing to develop that competitive position, however we have to apply the same projects, and same thinking across all of our sites,to continually pursue more efficient manufacturing practices,"Coleman added
As part of the upgradation, the company plans to replace its refrigeration system with an enhanced energy efficient system;transform its operations;reduce emissions and save on power bills.
The government has given the grant to the company as part of its$1bn Clean Technology Investment Program, which is meant to help food companies become more efficient, competitive and sustainable.
