The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in Northern Ireland has launched a campaign to keep contaminated milk out of the supply.
The agency conveyed 'Protect your milk supply' message to dairy farmers, urging them to keep contaminated milk out of their bulk tank.
In the recent years, a number of incidents were linked to contamination of the milk supply with milk from TB reactor animals and veterinary medicinal residues, resulting in product contamination and withdrawal from the market, the agency noted.
Posters are being sent to dairy farmers in Northern Ireland suggesting them to dispose of contaminated milk.
Producers have been advised to exclude milk from animals that show positive tuberculosis/brucellosis reactions, with diseases such as salmonella and E.coli, treated with unauthorized substances, displaying udder wounds or infections and that produce abnormal milk.
FSA concluded that milk which has become contaminated during production or storage must not be sold for human consumption, to comply with legislation and to protect consumers.
