Automobile major Chevrolet will add six low cab forward medium-duty truck models to its product lineup in the US next year to re-enter the commercial segment.
The variants - Chevrolet 3500, 3500HD, 4500, 4500HD, 5500 and 5500 HD - will draw upon Isuzu N-Series, procured by General Motors and distributed via Chevrolet dealers.
The initiative comes close on the heels of General Motors (GM) inking a pact with Isuzu Motors on a US commercial vehicle tie-up, allowing each other to boost their product offerings.
US vice president of GM fleet and commercial sales Ed Peper said: "Bringing low cab forward trucks back to our portfolio strengthens Chevrolet's commitment to providing commercial customers with more choices and provides customers with a versatile lineup of trucks, vans and crossovers... This addition helps our dealers satisfy their commercial customers' needs all in one place."
The gas-powered new trucks, which will be flaunting regular-cab and crew-cab body styles, will be made at Charlotte, Michigan.
Besides, it will be powered by General Motors' sourced 6.0L V-8 gas engine and six-speed automatic transmission or Isuzu-sourced 3.0L and 5.2L turbo-diesel engines. It will be compatible with a variety of body types, including refrigerated box, stake/flat bed and service bodies.
While the chassis lengths range from 109 inches to 212 inches, the engine compartment is said to offer an easy access with 45-degree-tilting cabin. It also has easy entry and exit for drivers.
Chevrolet's lineup for fleet and commercial vehicles has Silverado lineup, the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD full-size chassis cab models and the midsize Colorado, among others.
