Philippines Seized 150kg of Frozen Meat Products Worth P20,000 From Quezon City

Philippines Government officials have seized 150kg of frozen meat products worth P20,000 ($444) from Quezon City.

GMA News reported citing radio dzBB's James Agustin that the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) captured the meat from commonwealth market, Quezon City.

According to the TV report, the meat was not up to the safety standards of the country as it was not placed in a freezer, with high potential for contamination. NMIS noted that meat has to be kept at constant temperature.

Some of the vendors claimed that the meat had just come out of the freezer, while some said they didn't have space for a freezer.

The inspection was conducted by NMIS and Quezon City veterinary office together and captured the meat from five to six stalls.

NMIS is an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, Philippines and was established to serve as the national controlling authority on all matters pertaining to meat and meat product inspection and hygiene.
