ArcelorMittal and Brazil Have Emerged as Leading Bidders for ThyssenKrupp

Reportedly, the world’s two major steelmakers ArcelorMittal and Brazil’s Siderúrgica Nacional have emerged as leading bidders for ThyssenKrupp AG’s access in the United States and Brazil.

ArcelorMittal has invested US$1.5 billion for the bid while Brazil’s CSN is offering US$ 3.8 billion.

People familiar with the situation revealed that the US steelmaker Nucor also offered US$ 1.5 billion for the Alabama plant but was less likely to succeed.

The fact is that ThyssenKrupp has suffered from cost overruns, poor project management and weak demand for steel due to economic downturn.

It’s said final bids will be nail down by end of Feb but no direct respond from ThyssenKrupp so far.
