With this move, the company is seeking to meet the demand for utility vehicles globally. The company will export Ford Edge manufactured at this plant to over 60 countries globally.

Fuel-saving technologies of the new Ford Edge Concept include active grille shutters, auto start-stop and an air curtain to manage airflow around the front wheels.

Ford Motor Company of Canada president and CEO Dianne Craig said: "We're ready to showcase Oakville Assembly's commitment to craftmanship and advanced manufacturing to deliver what our global customers want and value -- a high-quality vehicle with class-leading design, fuel efficiency and performance."

Earlier in September 2013, Ford announced a C$700m investment to expand the Oakville Assembly plant's manufacturing capability. Currently, the plant produces Ford Edge and Ford Flex, along with Lincoln MKX and Lincoln MKT.
