General Motors (GM) has launched the new Chevrolet Aveo family car at the ongoing Auto Chongqing 2014 in China.
Seven sedan and six hatchback variants with a choice of 1.4L and 1.6L engines are being offered at a price of between RMB 73,900 and RMB 109,900.
Built on GM's global platform for compact vehicles and targeted at young families, the new Aveo is the second model conceived in accordance with Chevrolet's "Power of Ingenuity - Youth" concept, following the Trax urban SUV. It has a unique design and spacious interior, comfortable handling, user-friendly features and advanced safety.
The new Aveo is Chevrolet's first subcompact car that adopts the brand's new "Design with a Heartbeat" signature design language. Coordinated muscular proportions give the car a strong, dynamic look.
Impressive chrome-plated headlights are integrated with the chrome-plated grille and fog lamps. Belt lines extend outward from the middle of the car, where they converge at the slightly raised rear spoiler.
The refined interior has a people-oriented design. It features a floating dashboard and motorcycle-style instrument cluster. There are 21 storage spaces. The rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split to accommodate larger items.
The new Aveo is equipped with the all-new Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system along with a 7-inch high-resolution touch screen in its center console. This is rarely seen in the segment. It includes a multimedia player, Bluetooth phone connectivity, Siri Eyes Free and intelligent voice navigation.
Individualized elements not commonly seen in the new Aveo's segment include a four-way adjustable steering wheel, adjustable headlamps and an in-vehicle air filtration system.
Built on GM's global subcompact car platform, the new Aveo has a rigid body and a finely tuned suspension. The chassis setup matches European standards.
Electric power steering (EPS), which comes standard, makes steering easy at lower speeds and steady at higher speeds. Unlike other models in its class, the new Aveo also comes with 15-inch tires.
Powering the sedan and hatchback are a choice of 1.4L or 1.6L ECOTEC DVVT engines. The engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that provides rapid gear changes and a powerful performance, making the new Aveo ideal for city driving.
The new Aveo boasts all-around safety, with 64 percent of its body made of high-strength steel and a "double security" design for the front and rear bumpers.
In addition, the new Aveo comes with four-channel anti-lock brakes and the electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and cornering brake control (CBC) systems as standard, enabling the driver to react quickly. It also comes with an engine anti-theft system, safety belt reminders for the driver and front passenger, and ISOFIX child seat mountings.
