As part of the expansion, the company will invest around $9m in the installation of three new packaging lines and one processing line. The new lines will produce Dole's tender-leaf packaged vegetable products, including spinach, spring mix and baby lettuce.

The expansion will enable Dole to cater to the northeastern part of the US in a more efficient manner, and is expected to create 140 new jobs.

Dayton Development Coalition president and CEO Jeff Hoagland was quoted by Dayton Daily News as saying: "Ohio continues to provide the necessary attraction benefits to companies looking to expand and companies looking to relocate to attractive markets."

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved 50%, nine-year Job Creation Tax Credit for Dole's expansion. The city of Springfield is also expected to provide incentives.
