Better Work Indonesia (BWI) programme and Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE), programmes initiated by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), conducted a training programme in Jakarta-based garment manufacturing unit, PT Logos Indonesia, to improve the unit’s productivity while upholding the workers’ rights and safety guidelines.

During the training programme, BWI and SCORE found that developing communication skills of the workers will help in implementing the safety regulations.

Many of the PT Logos workers adopted the company’s safety protocols because of their good communication ability.

BWI and SCORE were able to overcome challenges to convince workers to wear the safety masks and ear plug in high-risk chemical area, according to an ILO statement.

Hendrawan, chairperson of bipartite cooperation institution within PT Logos, said that communication between workers and management is really important to address issues in the workplace.

In future, BWI will offer the SCORE training programme to its willing partner factories.

The Better Work programme, operational since 2011, helps employers and workers comply with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) core labour standards and national labour laws through market incentives.
