Taipei, Oct.30, 2012 (CENS)--Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Corp., a major synthetic fiber manufacturer in Taiwan, will invest NT$12 billion (US$400 million) within three years to build a plant in CTSP (Central Taiwan Science Park), which will officially go online in the beginning of 2015, turning out LED backlight modules, solar module substrates, and high-end functional films.
D.S. Wu, chairman of the firm, says the plant expansion in CTSP's Erlin area will be conducted by Shinkong Materials Technology Co., an affiliate of Shinkong Synthetic Fibers. The expansion is to be constructed in two phases within three years, to produce 6,000 tonnes of optical PET (polyethylene terephthalate) films monthly, with annual production value up to NT$7.2 billion (US$240 million).
Shinkong Materials Technology’s four production lines in Taoyuan reach 5,000 tonnes monthly, only next to Nan Ya's 5,000~6,000 tonnes on five lines. The new plant in CTSP is likely to become the largest plant of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) films in Taiwan.
Shinkong Materials Technology was established in 2004 and backed by 20-year manufacturing experience in PET films of Shinkong Synthetic Fibers. The firm's "SHINPEX" PET products are widely used in optical, food packing, electronics, stationery, and other industrial applications, and are highly-reputed in polarizer, tapes, and laser printing industries.
The new plant in CTSP will mainly develop four products including LCD backlight module substrates, high-level functional films, materials for solar modules, and green energy-saving materials such as anti- UV / IR energy-saving films and IMD mold polychrome film.
Shinkong Synthetic Fibers started to tap LCD backlight modules market in 2003, and plans to set up an operating headquarters and R&D center in CTSP, also bringing downstream manufacturers together to form an industrial cluster.
