American automaker Ford Motor has developed a new fleet management tool, the Ford Fleet Purchase Planner, which would help users build a better fleet.
The tool also guides the user to choose from Ford's vehicle portfolio in order to manage cost as well as reduce their company's carbon footprint.
Ford research and advanced engineering systems analytics and environmental sciences manager John Ginder said the one-size-fits-all approach is outdated.
"Given what can now be done with analytics, customers shouldn't settle for buying one vehicle for an entire fleet based on factors such as projected use or miles per gallon," Ginder added.
The tool allows customers to build a fleet of Ford vehicles, which would help in addressing environmental concerns, individual driving habits of employees and terrain traveled as well as the fleet's environmental impact and cost.
"This level of individualized customer service is exactly why we continue to invest in analytics and big data."
Elevator and escalator manufacturer KONE is already using the tool and is planning to replace its fleet of 160 Ford Fusion cars with the new Fusion Hybrid by 2018 that would help it reduce carbon emissions of 850 metric tons per year.
