Maple Leaf Foods Revealed The Details of Its Sustainability

Canada-based Maple Leaf Foods has revealed the details of its sustainability and community outreach efforts to date with a particular focus on 2012.

The highlights of Maple Leaf's sustainability efforts include economic contributions, health and well-being products, environment, a culture of safety.

Maple Leaf Foods noted that the company has invested approximately C$770m ($756.97m) to increase its scale and productivity and the global competitiveness of the Canadian food industry.

It has developed a Naturals line of prepared meat products containing no artificial preservatives or ingredients..

In 2012, about 95% of waste from 40 of Maple Leaf's manufacturing facilities was deviated from landfills, which represents approximately 80% cent of the company's total production, the company said.

In addition, the company has established a five member Food Safety Advisory Council, including food safety experts from Canada, the US and the UK, which help the company to stay update on emerging global issues and advancements.

Maple Leaf Foods, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, is a leading food company with approximately 19,500 employees across its operations in Canada, the US, the UK, and Asia. The Company posted sales of C$4.9bn ($4.81bn) in 2012.
