Capital Meat Processing Company Nigeria Limited Has Inked a Memorandum of Understanding

Capital Meat Processing Company Nigeria Limited has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and lease agreement with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), for an ultra-modern abattoir at Tungan Maje in Gwagwalada Area Council.

As per the agreement, the company is liable to introduce meat processing technology of its foreign technical partners, while Nigerians will also be undertake training for different works of meat processing such as curing, fabrication, storage and packaging.

The agreement for NGN1.25bn ($7.6m) contract was formulated for the development of Abuja Central Abattoir through public-private partnership management.

The abattoir is expected to be complete and ready for operation within 12 months, reported AllAfrica.com, citing Premium Times.

FCT Minister of State Olajumoke Akinjide told the website that following the completion of the project, the abattoir would have the per day capacity of slaughtering 500 heads of cattle and 1,500 sheep and goat.

"In the meat processing and fabrication component, about 40 tonnes of meat would be processed into about 10 number products, such as sausages, hotdogs, steaks, premium and briskets, among others," added Akinjide.

The abattoir is said to be in compliance of standards laid out by The World Health Organisation (WHO) and The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Capital Meat Processing chairman Umaru Mutallab noted, "Our interest in establishing an ultra-modern abattoir stems from the need to ensure that the public consume hygiene food in the FCT. We assure all stakeholders of our determination to make this work."
