Ford is investing $1.1bn to expand its Kansas City Assembly Plant in the US, in order to meet the increasing demand of the F-150 and Transit vehicles.
The move will include retooling of the assembly plant facility along with the expansion of 78,000sqft paint shop and the already built 437,000sqft stamping facility.
The new paint shop expansion will include implementation of the three-wet paint process, which is claimed to be more environmentally friendly and require less time than conventional paint processes.
Ford Americas president Joe Hinrichs said the customer demand for F-150 is strong and continues growing three times faster than the overall industry.
"Our 'Built Ford Tough' F-150 is America's favorite pickup, and we are going to expand operations in Kansas City to ensure we have enough trucks to meet customer demand," Hinrichs added.
Additionally, the company is planning to add 2,000 workers to the plant, which currently has 2,450 hourly workers working on two shifts, in the third quarter of 2013.
