UK-based supermarket chain Asda has recalled its own label buttery spread over fear of contamination with hard plastic bits.
The supermarket chain recalled Asda Buttery Spread tubs, which weighed 500gms retailing at 50p each and carry a best before date of 28 December 2015.
The issue was found when the products in question were suspected to have contained pieces of clear hard plastic, Coventry Telegraph reported.
As a precautionary recall, the company urged customers to return the affected products to the nearest store where they would be given full refund. The bar code of the affected product is 505407048345.
The company's statement read: "As a precaution we are recalling the relevant products as they are not recommended for consumption."
The company has announced that other date codes remain unaffected by the recall and has posted a customer relations contact number to answer customer queries related to the recall.
The company has issued a public apology for the inconvenience caused.
Asda operates stores in Coventry which include at Brade Drive, Abbey Park, Daventry Road, and Warwickshire Shopping Park in Binley.
