Chevrolet has unveiled a new 6.2L V-8 engine for its new 2014 Corvette sports car which is expected to be launched during late 2013.
Claimed to offer an output of 450hp and 610Nm torque, the first of the Gen 5 family of Small Block engines is expected to allow the car to sprint from 0-60 in about four seconds, while offering 26 miles per gallon on the highway.
The new engine incorporates direct injection, active fuel management and continuously variable valve timing to support combustion system.
Chevrolet said the active fuel management (AFM) will assist in increasing fuel efficiency by slightly shutting half of the engine's cylinders in light-load driving.
Features of the engine include all-aluminum block and oil pan, advanced oiling system, with available dry-sump system, tri-lobe camshaft, cam-driven fuel pump, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV)-integrated rocker covers, intake manifold and throttle body assembly, four-into-one exhaust manifolds, cooling system and humidity sensor.
