Taylor Farms Maryland and Taylor Farms Texas are recalling 22,849 pounds of broccoli salad kits as the salad dressing in the products could potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.
The implicated salad dressing, DRSG. BROCCOLI RESER 18/18z, is associated with a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall.
Product subject to the expanded recall is 'TAYLOR FARMS BROCCOLI CRUNCH WITH BACON AND DRESSING' of 6.06lb and 12.13lb featuring case codes 310151 and 310153 respectively and 6.33lb boxes of 'Kit, Broc PPC' with case code 5900067.
Previous recall includes 'TAYLOR FARMS BROCCOLI CRUNCH WITH BACON AND DRESSING' of 6.06lb and 12.13lb, with the case code 310151, produced on 21 and 22 October 2013, featuring case code 310153, produced from 21 October to 23 October 2013.
The shipments bear the establishment number 'EST. 34522' or 'EST. 34733' inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Shipped to distributors and retail locations, the salad kits were intended for sale in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
Taylor Farms informed the FSIS that the products contained salad dressing which is subject to an FDA recall.
No illnesses have been reported to the FSIS, FDA and Taylor Farms, in conjunction with these products.
The recall is classified as Class I. It indicates a situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness in certain groups of people, including pregnant women, unborn and newborn babies, and those with reduced immunity, particularly the over-60s.
