PEVs Installed with The V2B Technology Need Register Total Sale of 200,000 Units

Plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) installed with the vehicle-to-building (V2B) technology are expected to register total sale of 200,000 units from 2012 to 2020, according to the report by Navigant Research.

The increase in sales is expected to be driven by the intent of the building managers and homeowners to search for new ways to manage energy costs.

Navigant Research research director John Gartner said V2B technology can benefit both vehicle and building owners, by offsetting some of the cost of PEVs, by lowering the energy costs of the building, and by providing emergency backup services.

"Numerous pilot projects around the world are developing and testing V2B technologies, most of them as part of larger microgrid and smart grid projects," Gartner added.

According to the report, the projects are capable of integrating only hundreds of vehicles.

V2B technology allows the energy stored in PEV batteries to be used by the commercial and residential buildings.
