The Warwickshire based specialist supplier of flexible packaging, has announced the recent purchase and installation of a new high speed Flat Base Pouch machine.

The machine from Totani (BH-60DG-F) is one of the first globally to permit two-up, flat base pouch capability unlike other standard, press-to-close zipper, flat base pouch machines that are said to run a one-up format.

Commenting on the machine, Adam Kay, sales and technical director, Tyler Packaging, said: “The machine has a five-panel registered print capability and can accommodate all laminated films used in our pouches. It can run at very high speeds (over 200 pouches per minute), as well as undertaking high quality, high strength sealing which makes the flat base pouch suitable for storage and transportation of not only solids but also liquids due to its high seal integrity.”

The machine produces packs in sizes from 90mm x 74mm x 200mm up to 194mm x 114mm x 580mm, depending on the pouch format. The diverse range of styles is achieved by utilising two separate film webs (main and side gusset) and a larger width of 294mm is available with a web extension.

Adam added: “The new machine is now installed and running extremely well and we can do so much more. It uses 12 percent less material than a stand-up pouch with a similar volume making it more economical as it reduces the pack weight. The new machine also allows us to undertake laser scoring to enable easy open and, with the new machine, we can also offer an array of resealables such as Velcro, top slider and hooded top slider.”

He concluded: “We’re continuously looking to improve our offering. This is a big investment for us but it’s important to embrace and invest in new technology. It’s the only way to grow. Our objective is, and always will be, to remain at the forefront of flexible packaging. With the purchase of this new machine, as well as breaking into new European markets, this highlights our intentions further.”
