General Motors Will Invest $250m in Canada Plant

US automaker General Motors will invest $250m to install equipment in its CAMI Assembly Plant at Ingersoll, Ontario in Canada.

The amount will be used by the company to deploy flexible body shop equipment and tooling for future vehicle production.

Construction at the plant is expected to begin in the coming weeks, which is expected to help produce a higher variety of differentiated products, on multiple platforms, at lower costs.

General Motors Canada (GMCL) president and managing director Kevin Williams said that the conversion of the CAMI Assembly Plant to a flexible manufacturing facility will provide CAMI with the ability to produce multiple global architectures and body styles.

"Continually improving the flexibility of our manufacturing operations helps us respond quickly to customer needs and market demand," Williams added.

GMCL has its headquarters in Oshawa, Ontario and employs over 9,000 people across the country.
