Bassett Furniture Will Invest $1.5 Million in a Three-Year Expansion in Henry County,Va.

Bassett Furniture Inds.says it will invest$1.5 million in a three-year expansion in Henry County,Va.,aimed at growing the company's custom casual dining business.

A key part of the project will add 5,000 square feet of manufacturing at the company's Martinsville plant,which produces custom casual dining.That project was started after Thanksgiving and is expected to be completed by late April.

The company said it is also expanding other aspects of its business over the three-year period.This includes adding jobs at its Henry County warehouse and at its product design center,also in Henry County.

Virginia Gov.Bob McDonnell's office announced the project,which it said will add 25 jobs.The announcement said the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corp.worked together to secure the project.

"This investment will expand our production capacities,provide improved service for our customers,and position the facility for future growth,"said Rob Spilman Jr.,Bassett's president and CEO."This expansion underscores the importance of our local workforce and its ability to meet our customers'needs,and build upon our founders'legacy that began in 1902."
