Solid Waste Recycling of Hormel Foods

Hormel Foods has reportedly surpassed the water, solid waste and packaging reduction targets in the first year as part of its larger five-year sustainability program.

The objectives for fiscal 2012 in terms of solid waste, air and energy have become effective that are evaluated against 2011 as the base year, reported packagingdigest.com.

According to the firm, it reduced water consumption by 15% in fiscal year 2011 from the levels used in 2006.

Solid waste recycling rate was 46% at the close of fiscal year 2011 compared to 41% at the close of the previous fiscal, the firm claimed.

The firm achieved a reduction of 1% in direct energy consumption while increased indirect consumption by the same margin.

Hormel Foods had also released the 2011 Hormel Foods Corporate Responsibility Report in May, which is the fifth comprehensive report from the company.
